Xbox One and the Urgent Need for Exclusive Games

20.09.2019 13:30

These new studios are Microsofts key to true exclusives. You can only rely on three blockbusters for so long when the release time between them are spaced out. If anything, by this point Microsoft should have several blockbusters and a few legendary exclusives. Instead, two of its blockbusters are also legendary franchises and it has shown nothing that could be the next wave of greatest hits.

A Closer Look at Gears 5s Huge 3 Million Player Success; What it Means for Microsoft & Xbox

20.09.2019 13:29

In the future, gamers will have no idea if a game launched well or not. Theyll know if its good or not, thats for sure, but they wont really know if it was remotely financially successful: this is already complex information thanks to games-as-service mechanics, microtransactions and the lot, but its only going to get more obscured with time. Gears 5 is a test case for that: for all intents and purposes, it seems to be a huge success. Its putting up huge numbers, with more than three million players in its first weekend. Its also got great reviews, and a promising future in multiplayer even if the first weekend had some pretty serious issues. So, in other words, a slam dunk. But Microsofts ecosystem is more complicated than it used to be, so this warrants further examination.

Gears 5 Learned from the Failures of Dead Space and Halo

20.09.2019 7:32

Gears 5 has been a significant win for Microsoft. The game has been nearly universally hailed as a major step forward for the Gears of War series, but many of its bold new features are built on the bones of past failures. In fact, Gears 5 is an amalgam of lessons learned from two of modern gamings most divisive titles: Dead Space 3 and Halo 5: Guardians.

It's Microsoft's Fault That Videogames Are Bad

20.09.2019 1:33

It behooves first party publishers to provide top quality productions that make their consoles worth buying. Nintendo and Sony have both produced amazing games to sell us on the PS4 and Switch. Microsoft, however, is different. Microsoft has decided to act no better than a grasping third party "AAA" publisher. Even worse, it set the tone of a generation and contributed - perhaps more than any other company - to the nasty normalization of excessive monetization. It's Microsoft's fault that videogames are bad.
